Biography

Frans was a son of Harman Myndertsz van de Bogart, who immigrated to New Netherland in 1631 as surgeon in the ship Eendracht.[1]

Frans was baptized in the Reformed Dutch Church of New Amsterdam on 26 August 1640, recorded as Francoys, child of Mr. Herman Meynderts. Witnesses were Maria Ederisen, Corn. Leenderts, Mr. Hans Kierstede, and Aeriaentje Cornelis.[2]

He was married to Annetje Tjerks. They resided in Schenectady, New York. They had two known children, sons Claes and Tjerk.

Additional biography excerpted from "A History of the Schenectady Patent in the Dutch and English Times":[1]

Frans came to Schenectady among the early settlers and was killed in the massacre of 1690. His son Claas (and probably the father also) owned a lot in the village on the north side of Front street (near the north gate), having a front of 131 Amsterdam feet on the street and 51 feet on the river. This parcel of ground comprises the lots of the late Gen. Jacob Swits, Henry Rosa, and John McMichael. His farm lay on the south side of the river at and below the Saratoga railroad bridge, and a portion of it still [in 1883] belongs to his descendants.

Son of surgeon who immigrated to New Amsterdam. Settled in Schenectady before 1684 and was killed in the French & Indian massacre of 1690. Extensive family information here:

Frans died in Schenectady in February 1690 when the settlement was attacked by French and Indians.

Harmensz-14 and VandeBogaart-3 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate. Probably didn't show up in the algorithm earlier because of complex LNAB.
