Biography

Margaret was born before 1920. She was the daughter of Wilber Vanderbeek and Fannie Conklin. She passed away after 1980.

  • MARGARET VANDERBEEK FRANKLIN

Margaret Vanderbeek Franklin, the daughter of James Wilder and Fannie Conklin Vanderbeek grew up in Elizabeth, NJ where she was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church and later a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Douglass College, New Brunswick, NJ in 1935. She was a class officer and continued to be active in the Alumni Association until her death. She was married to Joseph Franklin in 1945. Mrs. Franklin was a legal administrator in New York City, first at the firm of Chadboune Parke and then for the firm of Breed, Abbott and Morgan. In 1974 she became the legal administrator at the law firm of Howrey & Simon in Washington, DC until her retirement in 1983. She was an active member in the American Association of University Women and the Association of Legal Administrators. In both organizations She was a. past president of her local chapter and held numerous other offices She was a member of the National Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC where she served on the board of Trustees and President of the Business and Professional Women’s Guild. Mrs. Franklin, a long lime golfer, was a member of Cedar Crest Country Club. She made her home in Alexandria, VA from 1974 to 1993. For the past 2 years she resided at Westminster at Lake Ridge. She is survived by 2 cousins, Marian Gleason of Burlington, VT and Grace Donnald of Altamonte Springs, FL, a niece Margaret Vanderbeek of Stafford Springs, CT, and 2 nephews, Robert Vanderbeek of Roselle, NJ, and James Vanderbeek of Roselle Park, NJ.
