Herbert M. VanDemark

Herbert M. VanDemark, age 78, died very suddenly early Sunday morning at his home here. He had been around the village as usual on Saturday and was stricken with heart ailment late in the night.

Mr. VanDeMark was born in Phelps and has spent his life here, being a farmer and very active in community affairs, having been an assessor of the town for many years, a director of the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Association since it was organized in 1918, past president of the Business mens Club, a fifty year member of the Oaks Corners Grange, having recently received the Golden Sheaf, and a Vestryman and communicant of the Episcopal Church.

He leaves his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Oliver Crothers; one son, Gardner; three grandchildren, Miss Barbara Crothers and Paul Van Demark, both of Phelps, and William Crothers, musician second class of the U. S. Navy, stationed at Hawaii.

The funeral was held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Oliver Crothers, at 82 E. Main Street, Tuesday, Nov. 20, with the Rev. John Wooton of the Episcopal Church officiating, and burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery, Phelps. Source: fultonhistory.com
