Vern A. Vandemark, of Columbus, died Saturday, July 13, 1996 at Whetstone Care Center. He was born in Fairgrove, MI, the son of L.D. and Anna E. Vandemark. He graduated from Michigan State University, where he earned his B.S., M.S., and M.A. Degrees. He later earned his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University, where he was Professor in the Agricultural Economics Department.

He was the beloved husband of wife, Joanne P. Vandemark; also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Susanne and Vernon Cole, Sturgis, MI; son, John R. Vandemark, Orlando, FL; grandchildren, David, Eric and Mary Cole; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Joseph and Betty Vandemark, Urbana, IL; brother-in-law and his wife, John R. and Jean Purdy, Wolfeboro, NH; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a past member of the Rotary Club; American Marketing Association; Food Distribution Research Society; The Ohio State University Faculty Club; Epsilon Sigma Phi; Delta Sigma Gamma; Alpha Zeta, and founding President of the Phi Kappa Phi Chapter at The Ohio State University. Doctor Vandemark was also a member of the Ohio State Retirees Association and Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Funeral service 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, 1996 at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., where friends may call from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, and prior to the service from 1:30-2:00 p.m. Wednesday. Rev. Thomas G. Albaum officiating. Interment Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be directed to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2070 Ridgecliff Road, Columbus, Oh. 43221, or to the Central Ohio Diabetes Association, 1580 King Avenue, Columbus, Oh. 43212, in memory of Dr. Vern A. Vandemark.
