1850 United States Census, Franklin Township, Warren, Ohio: Benjamin Vanderveer is head of household, a farmer age 51, with wife Jane Vanderveer age 51, and children Benjamin D., a laborer age 18, Uriah age 10, Sidney D. age 8, James B. age 4, and Aaron B. age 4. [1]
James Barcalow Vanderveer and his brother, Aaron Bowne Vanderveer, were twins.
1860 United States Census, Franklin Township, Warren, Ohio: B. Vanderveer is head of household, a farmer age 68, with wife Jane Vanderveer age 64, and children B. D. a farmer age 28, Sidney age 17, James age 15, and Aaron age 15. [2]
James Barkalow Vanderveer married Mary Ann Shaffer on August 9, 1864 in Warren, Ohio. [3] Their children were:

1880 United States Census, Washington, Poweshiek, Iowa: J. B. Vanderveer is head of household, a farmer age 36, with wife M. A. Vanderveer age 38, and children S. B. age 15, C. age 18, and A. A. age 11. [5]
He died August 17, 1894 in Grinnell, Poweshiek, Iowa at age 49. [6]
