Research suggests that this person may never have existed. See the text for details.

Relationships between historical figures could have been simplified or even fabricated in the text to give the impression that succession remained within the same family….Precise chronology is also difficult to assess from the Sagas….The conclusion must be that the tight family network described in the Sagas is unlikely to be correct and that the relationships shown below should be treated with considerable caution.

According to Snorri Sturluson

Visbur was first married to a daugher of Aude the Rich with whom he had two sons; Gisle and Ond. But left her and had the son Domald with another woman. The two sons from the first marriage grew up and burned their father to death in his house. The sorceress Hulda put a spell on the family and thereafter murder of his own kin would follow the House of Yngling until the end of time.

According to Johan Peringskiöld

Peringskiöld has estimated Visbur's death to 98 AD.[1] See Sources for Early Swedish Monarchs for more information about Peringskiöld.

House of Yngling

The kings before year 800 can be considered fictional characters. The sources for their existens are stories such as Ynglingasagan by Snore Sturlason, written early 13th century, and Beuwulf, an English heroic poem which oldest written source is from year 1000. The Danish historian Saxo Grammaticus, wrote down Gesta danorum at the end of the 12th century and its value as a source has been questioned. The Ynglinga-kings are to be considered as fictional characters but they are a part of the cultural inheritance.

Enligt Snorre Sturlasson

Visbur-1 and Vanlandesson-1 appear to represent the same person because: based on entire lineage, these were intended to be the same person

Something has gone wrong here. Drifa has been added as the wife of Visbur instead of his mother.
