Biography

Young was born May 1816 in Lexington County, SC. He passed away in Lexington County, SC.

Research Notes

Judging from 1860 census in Georgia, Young moved from South Carolina to Georgia between 1839-41 from listed birth place of first two children.

Douglas County-Created October 17, 1870, with 201 square miles taken from Campbell and Carroll counties. The county was first settled prior to 1848 by the Vansant brothers from South Carolina, Abe, Reuben, and Young. Young settled at Flat Rock, two miles west of the present court house. He deeded 40 acres for the first county scat at Skint Chestnut, January 9, 1871. The county was named in honor of U. S. Congressman Stephen Arnold Douglas (1813-1861) who was born in Vermont and lived in Illinois. He was the South's candidate for president, and was defeated by Lincoln in 1860. The county seat is Douglasville.
