Biography

Mary (Varney) Taylor lived in Appalachia, in Kentucky. See Appalachia Project.

Mary Varney is presumed to have been born circa 1777-1781, in Bedford County, Virginia, to Elizabeth Hunter and John Varney. [1] [2]

On April 12, 1804, in Monroe County, Virginia, Mary married John W. Taylor. [3]

In 1870, Mary lived with the family of her daughter Sarah Jane, who was married to Aly Smith. [1]

Mary is presumed to have died in 1871, in Canada, Kentucky. She is buried in Big Creek Cemetery. [4]

Research Notes

  • John Taylor died in 1814. No record has been found of her remarrying. Most likely any children she bore after her husband's death had a different father. ~ (Stacy-2346/22 Nov 2023).
