Giorgio Vasari is Notable.
  • artist, architect and biographer
  • grandfather's cousin: artist Luca Signorelli, who taught him as a boy and recommended him as a pupil of Guglielmo da Marsiglia
  • studied alongside a couple of Medicis, was later patronized by Cosomo Medici
  • friend of Michaelangelo, who he also greatly admired
  • mannerist style
  • 1546 Last Supper for Nuns of a Florentine Convent... this work was damaged in the great Florence flood and was later restored in time for the 50th anniversary of the flood.
  • established the Florentine Academy of Design
  • contributed to the Palazzo Vecchio and built the Vasari Corridor for Cosimo I
  • most well-known for his book Lives of the Most Eminent Painters, Sculptors and Architects, several volumes of biographies of artists from the 1300's to his time in the 1550's. It is considered one of the first works of Art History. It should be noted that Vasari was not focused on documenting facts and was more interested in the entertainment and gossip of their stories.
