Biography

The birth surname of Mary, wife of David Vaughan of Portsmouth, is unknown. They were married sometime before the birth of their son John, circa 1671.[1]

David died sometime before his will was proved in June of 1678. In it he bequeathed "my Indian boay called Sam" and the use of his property to Mary until his son John turns age 21.[2]

Mary had a second husband, Thomas Joslin[1] and they released all rights to David Vaughan's will on December 14, 1681.[2]

Children of Mary Vaughan and Thomas Joslin are:

  1. William Joslin, b. 1701, New York[3]

Research Notes

Many trees and genealogies give her surname as Mott. Legal documents prove that Mary Mott was married to David's brother John. Other trees refer to her as Mary Stockbridge but there was no adult Mary Stockbridge in the area.

Stockbridge-339 and Unknown-488592 appear to represent the same person because: No sources for the last name of Stockbridge has been found including Stockbridge Genealogy, Vaughan and Joslin genealogies. David Austin has her last name as Unknown, as do other quality sources.

SAme spouses, both correct, no sources show death date.

Please merge to Unknown -488592

While there may have been a Mary Stockbridge born to Charles & Abigail who who died young, I don't think she was married to David Vaughan or Thomas Joslin and after a lot of research I could find no evidence (other than her name appears in a lot of family trees.) David and Thomas' wife's birth surname is unknown; see Mary Unknown-488592.

There's no evidence that this Mary was daughter to Charles and Abigail Stockbridge and she's been disconnected. See Stockbridge-4 for the NEGHR listed children.

I see, there is a pending merge with Stockbridge-339, that makes sense.

Vaughan-1152 and Stockbridge-339 appear to represent the same person because: Mary Stockbridge married David Vaughan and then Thomas Joslin.

This is the same person
