Mrs. Elizabeth Frances Walker, 91, of Rt. 1, Pell City,
died Thursday, Aug. 19. Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 21, from the Chapel of Kilgroe Funerai Home with interment in Harkey's Chapel Methodist Church cemetery. Rev. Ray Shubert officiated and Kilgroe directed.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Dixie W. Phillips of Pell City, Mrs. Nathan A. Combs of Anniston; one son, Otto E. Walker, Jr., of Bainbridge, Ga.; one sister, Mrs. Naomi Costner of Gadsden; one brother, R.B. Vaughan of Ragland; four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on August 21 from the Chapel of Kilgroe Funeral Home. Interment was in Harkey's Chapel Cemetery. Reverend Ray Shubert officiated and Kilgroe directed. She is survived by two aughters, Mrs. Dixie W. Phillips of Pell City, Mrs. Nathan A. Combs of Anniston; a son, Otto E. Walker, Jr. of Bainbridge, Georgia; a sister , Mrs. Nioma Costner of Gadsden; a brother, R.B. Vaughan of Ragland; four grandchildren.

Frances Elizabeth Walker, who was 87 years young on Sunday February 6th,
celebrated her 'Big Day' at a party held in her honor at her home Sunday.
Those on hand to help in the celebration Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. A. T.
Winkler, Mrs. Velma Snider, Mrs. Vida Belle Jackson, Mrs. May Hurst, Mr.
and Mrs. Dalton Vaughan, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Combs, Dixie Phillips and
Mr. and Mrs. Orba Smith. She received many lovely and usefull gifts.
Mrs. Walker's son, Otto, was unable to attend, but 'wished' her a happy day
by telephone. She was very popular on her 'Day' as she also received calls
from Earl Symes, her son-in-law from Nampa, Idaho; Lloyd Drummonds of
Fort Walton, Florida and Jack Combs of Brunswick, Ga. She received flowers
to brighten the day from her grandson, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Walker and Zan
of Tallahassee, Florida.
Mrs. Walker was born on February 6th, 1,885 in Tennessee, the daughter of
Thomas and Amanda Vaughan. She and her family moved to St. Clair County
when she was a child. She later married the late Otto Walker, Sr.
Mrs. Walker has four children living, Mrs. Nathan ( Gladys) Combs, Anniston;
Mrs. Orba (Juanita) Smith and Mrs. Dixie Phillips of Pell City; and Otto Walker,
Jr, of Tallahassee, Florida. She is a grandmother of four times. Her grandchildren
are Douglas Walker, Van Walker, Jack Combs and Mrs. Rosco Hall.
Mrs. Walker; is distinguished in that she was the first woman to vote in Beat 10
(Coal City) after women were given the right to vote. She was featured in the
St. Clair News-Aegis as Mother of the Year in the early 1950's.
