William was born in March 1846 in Cooper County, Missouri and a son of Joseph Vaughan and Elvira Hill.

Other Household Members were Charity Vaughan 28 Kentucky, and the children all born in Missouri, James Vaughan 13, Joseph Vaughan 11, Martha Vaughan 9, Catharine Vaughan 7, Greenbury Vaughan 5, Sarah Vaughan 4, Phebe Vaughan 2, and Winifred Vaughan 6/12.
