Biography

David had ten children according to his will. If he began in his twenties that should take at least twenty years, perhaps thirty, making him about sixty in 1800. Perhaps he was much older. 235

26 Mar 1789. William Harrison to Nancy Vaughan. Lots. Contract of marriage. William Harrison gives Nancy Vaughan Porter Hill Mansion and Lots 12, 13, 14 & 15; House called Lark Hill; 100 acres of land in Dinwiddie Co. adj. Robert Bolling; ... ...; £50 to Nancy to give her brother Spencer when he goes to Great Britain to finish his studies. Witnesses: David Vaughan, John Crawford, James Vaughan. Recorded 1 Jul 1789. June 1790. David Vaughan granted Letters of Administration for the estate of Morris Vaughan, dec’d. He posted a £200 bond with Jordan Reese as security. Morris may be the father of 'David Vaughan. Source? Note: There were two David Vaughan living in Dinwiddie County in 1790. The son of Morris was b. 1 Jan 1741. This is consistent with this David Vaughan. Nevertheless it is still speculation.

3 Jul 1790. Erasmus Gill & his wife Sarah sold to David Vaughan. Lot 21, Gillfield. £30 sh11 p6. Lot 21 Gillfield on Federal St. [Has more description.] Witnesses: Luke Wheeler, John Verell, Jr., F. Muir, J. Grammar, Thomas Withers. Recorded 2 Aug 1790. [6]

17 Feb 1796, 4 Feb 1800. Will of David Vaughan of Petersburg, Dinwiddie Co. Virginia, Parish of Bristol. Wife Winnefred; sons James, Spencer C., Jeremiah, David, Daniel; daughters Susannah Hermon, Nancy Harrison, Elizabeth Tarpley, Polly C. Vaughan, Gency Vaughan. Exec: John Crawford, John Anderson, Henry Rees. No witnesses but John Blick swears to handwriting. Made 17 Feb 1796; recorded 4 Feb 1800. (Book #1 Hustings Court, p. 294). [7]
