Young Tasmanians On Queensland Tour. A desire to see Queensland, particularly the Atherton Tableland, prompted two young Tasmanians, Misses Mary Vaughan and Margaret Dunn, both of Hobart, to trust themselves to an ancient car in an overland tour commencing in Melbourne. The pair arrived in Rockhampton yesterday and stayed only long enough to visit Mrs A. T. Crowe, of Thozet Road, Koongal, who was Miss Vaughan's schoolmate at Friends' School, Hobart. They camped on Monday night on a creek near Mt Morgan and last night they planned to be at Westwood. Both are lovers of the outdoor life in a practical way. They worked for several months on citrus orchards at Gayndah and on arrival at Atherton they will take up employment on a farm, picking vegetables. They expect to be there for four months during which time they will spend their leisure hours exploring the scenic attractions of the Tableland. Camping out held no terrors for them, nor did the vagaries of their old car, judging by the expert way Miss Vaughan cranked the engine. Young Tasmanians On Queensland Tour (1947, June 25).
