James was born on 26 September 1839 in Waterville, Kings, Nova Scotia, Canada. He was the son of James Vaughan Sr and Margaret (Rafuse) Vaughan.
When James was about 24 he married Annie Eagles in 1864 in Windsor, Hants, Nova Scotia, Canada.[1]
James died at the age of 87 on 21 January 1927 in Windsor, Hants, Nova Scotia, Canada.[2]
James was buried on 23 January 1927 in Maple Wood Cemetery, Currys Corner, Windsor, Hants, Nova Scotia, Canada.
