Averett Vaughan, Son of James Vaughan. We do know Averett Vaughan was the son of James Vaughan who acquired 153 acres in 1817 as that is the James that d. in 1835. Averett Vaughan was b. 1795 (1850 Census). He died after the 1850 Census. His first marriage was to Sally Ogburn 15 Apr 1816. We also know he had a wife Elizabeth Ogburn, dau. of Benjamin Ogburn (sisters or the same person?) [Brunswick Co. Chancery Case 1843-001.] The Chancery case identifies his children as: Thomas H. Vaughan, 1842-1846, of Pontotoc Co., Ms. Richard J. Vaughan Robert Vaughan aka Robert B. Vaughan William J. Vaughan Eliza A. Vaughan who m. Gilliam Daniel 23 Jul 1838 in Brunswick Co. George Vaughan who died a minor, without issue

[Note: The following was shared on Facebook by Ric Vaughan: Elizabeth was Averett M.'s first wife and she died in childbirth, sixth child. He later married Wilmouth Moon and fathered six more children. My grandfather, Peter Paschal Vaughan was born on August 7 (my birthday), 1846? In the late 1850s, he sold most holdings in Virginia and moved to Magnolia, AR. Buried in Magnolia City Cemetery. One son, Averett Lee Vaughan, and Wilmouth Vaughan, returned to Virginia. Wilmouth moved to Richmond and died in 1865. Averett Lee moved to Statesville, NC where he's buried.]

Brunswick, Virginia Chancery Case 1843-001. This case involves land inherited by Elizabeth Vaughan, dau. of Benjamin Ogburn. She was married to Averett Vaughan. After her death her widower Averett held a life estate in her property. He consented to release his life estate in order that the land be sold and the proceeds divided. Thomas H. Vaughan, Richard J. Vaughan, Robert Vaughan, Gilliam Daniel & his wife Eliza A. & Turner Hamlett. Elizabeth [Ogburn] Vaughan m. Averett Vaughan. She later inherited a small piece of land from her father Benjamin Ogburn. Her heirs are Thomas H. Vaughan, Richard J. Vaughan, Robert Vaughan, William J. Vaughan, Gilliam Daniel & his wife Eliza A. & George Vaughan who died a minor, without issue. Gilliam Daniel & his wife Eliza A. have sold their interest to Turner Hamlett. Land sold and proceeds divided. Robert B. Vaughan is of Desoto Co., MS. [1]

13 Jul 1836. Averard Vaughan sold to Samuel D. Kelly 70 acres. $100. Adj. Matthew Abernathy, Joseph McKenny, John Kirkland, Benwell Cross, said Averard Vaughan, Rawliegh H. Abernathy, John Dugger. Witnesses: John P. Atkinson, Tim Thorpe, William A. Lundie, James M. McKiney. Recorded 25 Feb 1837.
