Christopher was born the son of Abraham Vaughn/Vaughen/Vaughan [1706] and Edith Gist [1709], a daughter of Captain Richard and Zipporah [Murray] Gist. Edith was a sister of the famous frontiersman Christopher Gist who opened up the Ohio Territory and traveled with General George Washington, twice saving his life.
Christopher married Mary Richards, daughter of Edward and Mary Head Richards.
I've yet to learn Christopher and Mary's children's names, if any.
LAND DEALINGS VAUGHN, CHRISTOPHER son of Abraham, in April 1759 purchased 140 acres "Spring Garden" from Jacob Schilling Jr.
April 1760 sold 50 acres "Vaughn's Delight" to Richard Richards. [note: Richard Richards was Mary Richards-Vaughn's brother.]
In 1769, Christopher Vaughn and his wife, Mary Vaughn, sold to Phillip Deal, 50 acres of land called "Isaac Wright's Range". Isaac Wright was a Quaker/Friend, who associated with Edward Richards [1678] and his son Benjamin Richards [1710] in founding a Friends Meeting ca 1739 on land that became Hampstead MD.
Christopher was appointed a Lieutenant in the Baltimore County Militia, 1777 (Archives of Md. XVI, 105) and signed the Oath of Fidelity in 1778 in Baltimore County.
HAMPSTEAD MARYLAND Christopher is credited with "laying out" the town of Hampstead Maryland in 1786. Edward Richards and his son Benjamin Richards had purchased land "Spring Garden" and "Rattlesnake Ridge" as far back as 1730. They first settled on their land in 1739. They founded a Quaker/Friends meeting in that locale, and remained as a oommunity grew up around them.
"The first land to be owned by a white man in the present Hampstead District was surveyed on January 5 1737 for Benjamin Richards and patented to him on February 7 1738 for 50 acres." from "Hampstead's Early History 1786-1800" by Keith Groner. [note: Benjamin Richards, born 1710, was Mary Richards-Vaughn's brother.]
Christopher marked out 16 quarter-acre lots for the town in 1786.
1790 census Lower Hundred, Baltimore Co MD Christopher Vaughen [this would be the modern Hampstead area, Carroll County Maryland]
