Native Virginian (born, married, and died in Patrick County)
Louisiana aka Louisa was born in September of 1837 in Patrick County, Virginia to Thomas James Vaughn (1800–1865) and Tabitha Martin Vaughn Spencer (1812–1898). She is listed with her parents on the 1850 Census[1] and they are listed on her marriage license at the time of her marriage to Peyton Graves Jefferson on September 3, 1857 in Patrick, Virginia.[2] Records indicate that they remained in Patrick County, Virginia and Louisa lists that she is the mother of a total of 13 children on the 1900 Census but only nine were living at the time that the census was taken. Both Louisa and Peyton passed away in 1911 and are buried in Shough Cemetery in Patrick Springs, Patrick County, Virginia.[3]
At this time nine of their children are linked on Find-a-Grave; four of their sons that died young (William, Thomas, John, and George) are not linked.
1. Louvenia Elizabeth "Bettie" (Jefferson) Beverley (1859–1943)
Originally listed as: Louisa Vaughn Jefferson Ratliff.
Louisa is listed with her parents on the 1850 Census and married Peyton Graves Jefferson in 1857. She is listed with Peyton on the 1860,[34] the 1870,[35] the 1880,[36] the 1900,[37] and the 1910 Census.[38] She passed away in 1911; as did her husband Peyton. No records have been found that indicate she was ever married to Alexander Ratliff and her tombstone lists her as Louisa V. Jefferson. For this reason; she is being removed as the wife of Alexander Ratliff but can be added back if a source is found that links her to him.
