Richard Pinckney and Nancy Jane moved with their son from Calhoun Co., MS and homesteaded a plot of land around 1857 in Calhoun Co., AR. Here they built a log cabin, part of which is still standing in the old Naval Ammunition Dept. Area. They had eight children which married and lived around in the same community. He was active in Mason.

Richard Pinkney Byars, born September 6, 1831 in Spartanburg District South Carolina, died February 14, 1891 in Calhoun County, Arkansas. Migrated to Mississippi and then to Arkansas. He was well ed-ucated; wrote a beautiful hand, married Jan 3, 1856 to Nancy Jane Vaughan in Calhoun City, Miss. She was born 1836 in North Carolina; died Jan. 2, 1907 in Calhoun Co., Ark. She was daughter of Jerome Vaughan. [3]
