JOHANN ANDREAS VOGT 1721-1787
aka: JOHN ANDREW VAUGHT
Revolutionary War Militia
John Andreas Vaught was born in 1721 in Carlsbad, GERMANY the son of Johann Johan Paulus (Johann Johan Paulus John Paul) "John Paul" Vogt formerly Vaught 1680-1761 and his wife, Maria Mary Catharina Katherina Catherine Margaretha (Unknown) Vogt 1687-1763.
Andreas (Andrew) married Elizabeth Catharine ERMENTRAUDT Vaught abt. 1727 - 1819 between 1741-1744 when he was about 20-23 most likely in the Piedmont of Virginia but might have been married in the Shenandoah Valley. Both locations were in Orange County in 1741-1744. Elizabeth was the daughter of Johann Philip Phillipus Ermentraudt 1699 - 1753.
Children of Johan Andreas Vaught 1721-1787 and his wife, Elizabeth Catharine ERMENTRAUDT Ermentrout 1727-1819:
In the 1750's Germans began to survey land in southwest Virginia. The Indian wars with both the Cherokees and the Shawnees stopped the move to southern Virginia until after 1770. Treaties were signed in 1770-1773 and the settlers moved south from the Shenandoah Valley following the Indian path between the Blue Ridge and the Appalachians. The immigrants passed the German settlements on the headwaters of the James River and settled on Reed Creek and Cripple Creek which were tributaries to the New River.
Most records for Andrew and his sons are from what is today Wythe County, Virginia. In 1770 Reed and Cripple Creeks were in Botetourt County. From 1772-1777 the area was Fincastle County, Virginia. In 1777 the area became Montgomery County and in 1790 Wythe County was formed. The Vaughts in southwest Virginia were sympathetic to the Loyalists and not to the Revolution. On April 18, 1779 in Montgomery County, Michael Henninger claimed in court that a group of 4,000 men under John Griffin had shown Loyalist sympathies. This group included John and David Vaught and "the old Vaught who owned the mill". At the trial of these men, John and David were released on their good behavior. Andrew Vaught of Cripple Creek was included in the group with Loyalist sympathies by the testimony of Peter Kinder on August 17, 1780. These Germans took their oath to King George seriously. They nearly all named a son George. John and David were later fined 1000 pounds each.
Moved from Peaked Mt. area to Montgmery area before 1772. Montgmery area became Wythe Co. Virginia. Andreas name became John Andreas Andrew Vaught later in life. Vaught was spelled WOCHT. He entered land on North Fork of Cripple Creek which included 364 acres settled in 1772 and surveyed in 1774. He had land in1762. He was a Tory during the Revolution.

Please consider the merge I requested for Vaught-84 and Vaught-388. This should represent one person due to many data point matches and would begin to pare down his fathers children list to 4, as records state, from the 6 currently listed. Thanks, Donny.
Thanks, Donny.
I am sorry, but I feel that Vaught-84 is definitely NOT a Match to Vaught-94.
I Rejected the Match of (John) Vaught-84 and Vaught-94 BECAUSE: 1- Vaught-84 says John is SON of Johan Simon Vaught 2- Vaught-84 says John is FATHER of Prudence Vaught 3- Neither Johan Simon Vaught and Prudence Vaught in Vaught-84 are mentioned in the Vaught-94 Profile. 4- Vaught-94 is the Son of Johann Johan Paulus (Vaught) Vogt - NOT Johan Simon Vaught and is documented with many visible souces and links. 5- Vaught-84 has NO visible sources or links to investigate, only the original imported Gedcom note.
