William Ventham was born May 21, 1848 in Awbridge, Hampshire, England. He was the son of James Ventham and Sarah Carley.
His census debut in 1851 was not like most, as it took place in the home of William Carley and Ann Carley, as young William's mother Sarah was visiting them in Michelmarsh, Hampshire. Ten years pass and he's back at home with his parents alongside his older brother George.
He married his wife Sarah Hurst May 29, 1869.
The first time William and his wife are together in a census is two short years after their marriage, along with their eldest child Anna and his wife's brother Frederick. A decade later, his brother-in-law gone, he and his wife's family has grown to include George E., Frederick, Arthur, and Henry A.
