In papers before the Supreme Court of Natal dated 12.8.1863, Dirk Cornelis Uys, acting on behalf of Dorothea Anna Vermaak (born du Pree), states that the latter
on 2.5.1855 bought the farm 'Uithoek' from the Estate of her late husband, Cornelis Tobias Vermaak, to whom it was bequeathed by the latter's son, Coenraad Marthinus Vermaak in a will made on 20.5.1852. This implies that Coenraad died before 1855.[2]
