I was born at a mission hospital called Groothoek Hospital, which was situated next to the then largest citrus farm (estate) in the world, Zebedelia.
My father was the administrative manager of the hospital and my mother the radiographer. The hospital was (still is) very big and had 1000 beds at that time. Many of these were reserved for patients diagnosed with Tuberculosis. In time the hospital had a little village where TB patients could live with their families while being treated. They were taught many different skills like rattan weaving, farming princples etc.
It was an idyllic childhood.
We spent a few years living in Alberton, adjacent to Johannesburg, but always hankered after life at hospitals. So, in 1972 we moved to another hospital 40km outside Tzaneen in the far northern province (now called Limpopo Province). This hospital was called Meetse-a-Bophela (which, roughly translated, means "water of life"). The hospital was nestled against the foot of the Drakensberg mountains. Again the most gorgeous setting for a treasured childhood.
In 1974 my father was asked to open a new hospital just outside Potgietersrus (now called Mokopane), also in Limpopo. My father died there in 1977. At this time I had just started university but had to relinquish my study plans when my dad died early on in my first year.
My mother remained at the hospital as radiographer until her retirement in 1993. By this time I had bought a house in Pretoria and my mom came to live with me.
In 1997 I married my husband Walter and we moved to Stellenbosch where Walter was working at the time.
I have one sibling, Sonia, older than me by four years. Unfortunately neither of us has progeny. So, with us will die our line of the Vermaak family - very sad.

If this is the same person, then you have more info than I do. Sorry. I wanted to add a snip from my screen, but no luck. My e-mail is firstname.lastname@example.org. I will send you the screen snip if you send me your e-mail. I see on my side she is the mother of Eugene and Pierre Bezuidenhout, and wife of Stefanus Petrus Bezuidenhout. Let me know. Rico
