Biography

Clergyman, devotional author.

Education

He was educated at Hertford College, Oxford, he took Holy Orders (deacon 1860, priest 1861).

He served curacies at Sellindge, Kent (1860-64), Cheriton, Kent (1864-67), Newington, Kent (1867-69), Stogumber, Somerset (1869-71) and Streatham, south-west London (1871-74). He was rector of St Audries, West Quantoxhead, Somerset, from 1874 until his death.

Devotional author

Vernon published many books on devotional topics. Probably the best known was The Harvest of a Quiet Eye: leisure thoughts for busy lives (1867), which went through many editions, but he also wrote Christian Burials and other works.

Death

He died on 30 September 1902.
