Biography

European Aristocracy
Dorothy Vernon was a member of the aristocracy in England.

Dorothy Vernon (c.1545-1584) was the 2nd daughter of Sir George Vernon and Margaret Tailboys. She married Sir John Manners, son of Thomas Manners, 1st Earl of Rutland and Eleanor Paston. She died on 24 June 1584.

They had five children:

  1. George born in Haddon Hall on 1576. George married Grace Pierrepont and had 6 children. He passed away on 1623 in Rutland, England.
  2. Grace ?-1634, married c. 1590, Sir Francis Fortescue, K.B., M.P., of Salden, Buckinghamshire, + 1623, son of Sir John Fortescue, Chancellor of the Exchequer,,
  3. John born in Haddon Hall, Derby, England on 1576 and passed away c 1590
  4. Elizabeth born in Cheshire, England on 1560. Elizabeth married John Savage and had a child. She passed away on 1614
  5. Roger born c.1575. He died in 1632, asking to be buried in Whitwell church.

"In the year 1565, in an inquisition held then, Margaret Stanley was found to be aged twenty-five years, and Dorothy Manners to be twenty years old" [1]
