William was baptized May 8, 1840 in Bristol, Gloucester, England. His parents were Henry Charles and Catherine (Williams) Vernon of Hilton Park, Staffordshire.[1][2] He graduated from Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, and at the time of his marriage to Alexandrina Sole in 1866 [3] was the Church of England parish priest of Great Barr, Birmingham. [4]
In 1871, the Vernons lived in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, with their two-year-old son, Cecil C.W.[5] At the time of the 1891 census William was a "clergy[man] in holy orders" (probably vicar of Pennfields, Wolverhampton[6]) and he and Alexandrina were visiting his sister-in-law Charlotte and her husband Philip E. Sewell, a retired civil engineer, in Norwich.[7] From 1896 to 1899, William served as the fourth vicar of St. John's Church, Kenilworth.[8] He probably died in 1925.[9]
