Biography

Birth and Parents

Ereleuva was living in 451 when her son Theodoric was born. ^[1]If she were 16 at the time, her birth year would be 435.

Ereleuva's origins are unknown, ^[2]

Concubine of Theodemir

Ereleuva was a concubine of Theodemir, King of the Ostrogoths in Pannonia. ^[1]

Iordanes names Theodemir and his brothers Valamir and Vedimir as sons of Vandilarius. As king of the Ostrogoths in Pannonia under his brother Valamir, Theodemir ruled over the western part of their domain including the county of Somogy and northeastern Croatia. ^[2]

In 468/9 Theodemir suceeded his brother as King of all the Pannonian Ostrogoths. ^[2]

In 473 the Ostrogoths left Pannonia and Theodemir went towards Constantinople; they settled in Macedonia, based in the city of Kyrrhos, where Theodemir died in 474. ^[2]

Although Ereleuva was his concubine, the name of Theodemir's wife is unknown. ^[2]

Issue

Theodoric, born 451 and died in Ravenna 30 August 526, was the son of Theodemir, King of the Ostrogoths in Pannonia and his concubine Ereleuva. ^[1]

Iordanes names "Theodericum" as son of Theodemir, in a later passage naming his mother "Erelieva concubina". ^[1]
