Will of Father, John Vertrees Sr.

In the name of God [?], I John Vertrees Sen. of the county of Hardin and state of Kentucky, sick and weak in body, but of perfect mind and memory as make and ordain this instrument of writing as my last will and Testament, to witt, fully confiding in the goodness of my great Creator for the disposal of my soul and to the discretions of my executor for the internment and burial of my body, I dispose of my worldly estate as follows, that is to say I do will that all my just debts and funeral charges be paid.

I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Elizabeth Vertrees one bed of furniture, one horse, also all [?] [?] of one third part of all the residue of my estate during her life, and at her death to be equally divided among the heirs lawfully begotten of my body.

I give to my son John Vertrees two hundred acres of land on Cave Creek, part of a four hundred acre survey the land he now lives on, to him and his heirs forever.

I give and bequeath to my son Isaac Vertrees two hundred acres of Land lying on Cave Creek, the half of the survey his brother John lives on also one bed [?] furniture, one bow, plow [?] and [?] to him and his heirs forever.

I give to my son Jacob Vertrees one hundred and fifty acres of land, the plantation I now live on, one horse he has in his [?], one bow, one bed [?] furniture; also my desk and new [?] and plow [?] to him and his heirs forever.

I give to my son Charles Vertrees two hundred acres of land on the other side of the Creek [?] the plantation I now live on and one bow to him and his heirs forever.

I give to my two grand sons William Allison and John Allison one hundred fifty acres of land lying on Rough Creek joining my son Joseph on the [?] [?] [?] the land that John Allison formerly lived on if it is obtained to them and their heirs forever.

I give and bequeath to my step son Daneil McNeil one [crow?] snare and [?] to him and his heirs forever.

I give and bequeath to my step daughter Rebeckah McNeil one three years old heiffer and one bull of a year old, to her and her heirs forever.

And it is my will that all the residue of my estate both [?] and [personal?] be equally divided between my five sons and two daughters, namely Joseph, John, Isaac, Jacob & Charly Vertrees and Mary Miles & Sary Rawlings and if any of them should [die?] before they come to age or marry, their part to be equal divided among those that survive. and I do [constitute?] and appoint my wife Elizabeth Vertrees and Joseph & John Vertrees my two sons to be equally the executors of this my last will and Testament, hereby this annulling all former wills by me made ratifying and confirming this and no other as my last will and Testament. In witness whereof I have [?] my hand and [?] my seal ths 18th day of November 1802.
