John was born on August 2, 1770 in Cane Creek, Orange County, North Carolina. [1] He was the son of Thomas Vestal and Elizabeth Davis. [1]

In 1795 he married Elizabeth Carter in North Carolina. [2]

"John Vestal, came to the neighborhood of where Portsmouth now is in the spring of 1799 and raised a crop there. Jow long he stayed there is not known, but he was at Waynesville in the spring of 1803, and soon after came to Todd's Fork and cleared a few acres, nine or ten. But he did not live long to enjoy his new home. While living on the Scioto, he had been greatly afflicted by diseases arising from stagnant water and decaying vegetations and although he sought relief in the new location in Clinton County, the disease had too firm a hold upon him and he died in the fall of 1804. His burial was the second in the old graveyard at Centre.[3]

He passed away in the fall of 1804 in Clinton County, Ohio. John was laid to rest in the Center Friends Burying Grounds in Clinton, Clinton County, Ohio, United States. [4] His estate was probated in Warren County, Ohio. [5]
