Biography

Sydney was born about 1869, the son of Phillip Vibert, a carpenter, and Hatty Vibert, nee Asplet. Sydney was baptised 3 Mar 1869 in the parish of Saint Peter, on the Island of Jersey (Channel Islands). The names Francois Gabeldu, Philip Vibert, and Ellen Asplet are written in the godparents' section of the register.

When the 1871 Census was taken, Sydney was 2 years old, his older siblings were at school, and

The 1881 Census shows the family had moved to Teston, in Kent (England) by that time, Sydney now aged 12 being a scholar.

Sydney was a painter and decorator. He came to Australia on the Cuzco in 1889 with his parents and siblings.

He spent time in Western Australia during 1890s and 1900s, working close to his Philip. For example, in 1893, he and Philip were noted to be "Brothers" of the new Duke Street Lodge of the Order of Good Templars, as noted in a newspaper article.

Aan acknowledgement of Sydney's condition as an unmarried man was noted in an article of the Shepparton advertiser regarding his involvement in the Rechabites in 1915.

Sydney moved back to Shepparton. In 1924 he put this in the Shepparton Advertiser: "HOUSE PAINTING - Try Syd Vibert, Practical Painter, Decorator, and Signwriter. Care Vibert's Timberyards, Shepparton. 'Phone 18."

The Australian Electoral rolls indicate Sydney lived with his brother Edmund and his family during his 60s and 70s, and later, he lived with his sister Florence.

Sydney's death was registered in Shepparton in 1959.
