SOURCE: YALOBUSHA CO. MISS. LAND RECORDS AND 1840 CENSUS. I have copy of document from Mary Russell (2nd wife) giving land to Aaron in YalobushaCo.(got a relinquishment of dower rights) in 1839 for $10. Possibly the widow of James Russell at that time. The census data shows Vickary,Aaron and 4 malechildren under the age of 10, one 16 to 26 yrs old, 1 female under 10 and one 16 -26.

SOURCE: I have copy of land purchase from a representative of the Republic of Texas in New Orleans dated 1840 and this indicates that he was a resident in Texas for 3 years.

Source: (JV) My Grandfather Alexander Vickery Said that his Grandfather was a rover and that he died on trip to Mississippi about 1849, this is why His wife Mary and children are shown in Polk Co. TX 1850 census without him, later in 1860 census she is shown as the widow. The family is said to have recovered his horse and body.

According to Pet Franssen, legend has it that Aaron Vickery died of aheart attact on the train on the way back from Mississippi where he went to take care of some Indian land that he owned. Aunt Pet said she saw papers showing that she was 1/4 indian. Papers were in a trunk in the barn where the hog ate them (This from Uncle Earl). Aunt Pet said he sold the land. LOOK FOR LAND RECORDS. She also said Aunt Ellie told Brucewhere Aaron Vickery is buried in Shepherd Cemetery. There use to be apicket fence around it. It is where Sally and Ben buried their baby in the front right corner as you go into the cemetery on top of Aaron.

SOURCE: TX LAND RECORDS show He purchased property in Smith Co. 640 acres on 3/20/1848 and 640 acres on 2/13/1852 (probably listed late or his son).
