Charlotte Vieux, a Potawatomi, was born about 1861 in what is now Kansas. She was the daughter of Jacob Vieux and Elizabeth Goslin. [1][2] Although many Potawatomi were removed to Indian Territory in 1867, the 1870 U.S. Census lists her as a nine-year-old student as "St. Mary's Academy" in Pottawatomie, Kansas. [3] She married Hiram Thorpe, a Sac and Fox, about 1880. [4] They were the parents of George, Charles, James, Mary, Adeline, and Edward. [5] Charlotte died in 1901 and is buried at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma. [6]
