Biography

Juan Bautista was born about 1724, possibly to Francisco Montes Vigil II and Maria Antonia Jirón del Castillo. In 1744 he married Josefa Martín^[1] and they had three known children: Carlos, Manuel Antonio, and Juana Teresa. He died in 1749.^[2]

Research Notes

1. Francisco Montes Vigil II had two sons named Juan Bautista, one with each wife. His brother Domingo also had a son named Juan Bautista. Many of the marriage records in Santa Cruz in this period are missing, including most of this family's records. Without marriage records, it is extremely difficult to link the child in the baptism record with the married adult. New Mexico genealogists have given their best guess based on other evidence but no one knows for certain at this time which Juan Bautista was married to each woman. I'm using the information María C. Martínez used in her two digital books, Some Descendants of Domingo Montes Vigil'^[3] and Descendants of Francisco Montes Vigil II.^[4] Korte-201 04:26, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
   • Juan Bautista Montes Vigil, son of Domingo Montes Vigil and Pascuala Salazar, born about 1721, was married to María Candelaria Medina. Their son Juan Bautista Vigil. born 1744 was most likely never married.^[3]
   • Juan Bautista Montes Vigil, son of Francisco Montes Vigil II and Maria Antonia Jirón del Castillo, born about 1724, was married to Josefa Martín.^[4]
   • Juan Bautista Montes Vigil II, son of Francisco Montes Vigil II and Lorenza Molina Quintana born about 1746, was married to (1) María Margarita Maese and (2) María Bernal.^[4]
