Biography

John was born 23 Dec 1844 in Indiana.[1][2]

In 1850, John "Voils" or "Voilz" 5, lived with his parents Thomas and Mary Voils, and four siblings, in Center Township, Hendricks, Indiana.[3]

In 1860, John was living in Center Township, Hendricks, Indiana, with his father Thomas, a farmer, mother Mary, and seven siblings.[4]

John Viles married Almeda Martin in Boone County, Indiana, on 21 Sep 1866. The ceremony was performed by John T. Jones, Minister.[5] Based on US Census and other records, John and Almeda had at least the following children, all born in Indiana:

  • Joseph T., b. ca. 1872
  • Irene B. Viles, b. ca. 1874; m. Josiah S. Jones; d. 1919
  • Francis Viles, b. ca. 1876

  • Samuel Oscar, b. May 1883; d. Oct., 1967
  • Otto H., b. July 1885; d. May, 1964
  • Henry M., b. June 1887

In 1880, John Viles, a 35 year old farmer, lived with his wife Almeda and seven children in Union Township, Hendricks, Indiana.[6]

In 1900, John Viles (indexed as John Jules), a farmer, and his wife Almeda were living in Rosston, Union Township, Boone, Indiana, with three children.[2]

In 1910, John Viles was living in Union Township, Boone, Indiana, with his son Samuel and Samuel's family.[7]

John died on 11 April 1932 at Noblesville, Hamilton, Indiana, and is buried at the Eagle Creek Cemetery, Westfield, Hamilton, Indiana.[1]

John's newspaper obituary, included with an online tree with no source, states that John was a US Civil War soldier from Hamilton County, Indiana, but it gives no unit, and I can find no evidence for John's service.Watt-266 17:25, 13 November 2015 (EST)
