Biography

The existence of Elizabeth Vincent, daughter of John Vincent, relies completely on a partially destroyed marriage record which has been interpreted to support the marriage of an Elizabeth Vincent to a Thomas Dexter.[1] 8 Nov 1648,[2] What is legible in the record is:

The marriage at Sanwich of "[blank] [blank]" to Mary Vincent on 8 November 1648.

There is no mention of Thomas Dexter, or Elizabeth.

(In early times Mary and Elizabeth were considered synonymous or interchangeable. I have found several similar cases ; but am unabled to give reason.)"

PGM: Did John Vincent have a daughter Elizabeth? Did she marry Thomas Dexter? Sandwich, Plymouth Colony 1648

posted by M Cole
Reliable and recent sources (Great Migration, Anderson's Winthop Fleet) show the wife of Thomas Dexter as Elizabeth _______. The marriage record referred to here actually names Mary Vincent and the groom's name is not legible. Is there any other evidence that John Vincent had a daughter Elizabeth? It appears that there are not any probate records for parents?

She was most likely born in England, as her father didn't arrive in New England until about 1637.

Vincent-973 and Vincent-87 appear to represent the same person because: Merged her husband already
