Biography

Mary Helen was born in 1930 in Prosperity, Edmonson County, Kentucky. She married George Carleton Burnette in 1952, raising two children from that union. She was widowed in 1999 and passed away in 2007.

Helen's Dress Shop

Mary Helen and her husband George Burnette were the proprietors of Helen's Dress Shop, a well-known women's clothing store in the southwest corner of the Public Square in Leitchfield, Kentucky. It was adjacent to her brother Bill's establishment, Vincent's Store for Men. Her mother, Mattie (Meredith) Vincent, also worked as a saleswoman there from the early 1950's until her death in 1983. Mary Helen closed the store a few years after George died, retiring to her home in Leitchfield.^[1]
