Biography

Clarke Vincent, son of Nicholas Vincent and Anna Hall, was born on 28 April 1781 in Rockville Village, Hopkinton, Kings county, Rhode Island. [1]

Clarke seems to have been named after his paternal grandmother, Jane Clarke.

Clarke Vincent served in the War of 1812. [2]

Clarke wed Polly Parly Gray in September 1811 in North Stonington, New London county, Connecticut. They had the following children:

  1. Mary Anne Vincent, b. 1813, d. 1865;
  2. Minerva Vincent, b. 1815;
  3. Elizabeth Vincent, b. 1818, d. 1908;
  4. Sylvanus Vincent, b. 1820, d. 1901;
  5. Male Vincent, b. 1822;
  6. Hiram Vincent, b. 1825, d. 1864;
  7. Philinda Vincent, b. 1826, d. 1898;
  8. Fanny Vincent, b. 1831, d. 1850.

Clarke Vincent died on 4 June 1842 in Columbus, Warren county, Pennsylvania, and was buried on 7 June 1842 in West Genesee Cemetery, Obi, Allegany county, New York. [3]

Historical-Geographical Note

Kings County was created from Providence Plantations in 1729. It was renamed Washington County on 29 October 1781, in honour of General and President Washington. [4]
