Biography
Cousin Chris Haines found out that John Woolvett's daughter Elizabeth, married Thomas Vincent who, on their marriage license, was listed as a Chief Boatman in the Preventive Service which means he worked for His Majesty's Government in the coastal anti-smuggling operations! Now, a lot of folks working for the government were involved in smuggling themselves. I suspect if you didn't give them a big enough piece of the action they would throw you in the clink! If you're involved in smuggling it would be nice to have a man on the inside, such as a son-in-law, looking out for you! Poor Thomas however, gets married and then goes back to the Preventive Service base at Wells-next-the-Sea in Norfolk and dies in July of smallpox unaware that his wife of two months is now pregnant with their daughter Elizabeth who is born the next year. Elizabeth and her daughter Elizabeth move back in with John and Sarah Woolvett at the Green Man where they were living at the time of the 1841census.
