Alfred was born on the 9th September 1841 in Islington, Middlesex, England, the son of Benjamin Vincent and ]Janet Young (Nicoll) Vincent. Alfred's parents were members of the Sandemanian church in Islington and he was christened by one of the elders, Stephen Leighton.[1][2]
1851 Census on the 30th March 1851 Alfred living in Wardour Street, Westminster, London with his parents Benjamin and Janet and his siblings Charles, Anne, Thomas, Maria, Robert, Jessy and Sarah. Janet's sister Elizabeth Nicoll was also living there.[3][4]
1861 Census on the 7th April 1861 Alfred a librarian's clerk, was living in Gloucester Place, St Pancras, Middlesex, with his parents Benjamin and Janet and his siblings Charles, Anne, Thomas, Maria, Jessy, Sarah, Emily and Ellen. Janet's sister Elizabeth Nicoll was also living there.[5][6]
Alfred married Janet Douglas shown as Jessie, at the Registry Office, Ampthill Square, London on the 16th September 1862.[7][2]
Alfred a widow, married Sarah Jane Hobbs on the 27th November 1865 in the Registry Office, Market Harborough, Leicestershire.[8][2]
1871 Census on the 2nd April 1871 Alfred an Exchequer Pleas clerk, was living at 4 Victoria Cottages South, Archway Road, Hornsey, Middlesex with his wife Sarah and their children Annie and Emily.[9]
1881 Census on the 3rd April 1881 Alfred a H.M. High Court of Justice clerk, was living at 4 Victoria Cottages South, Archway Road, Hornsey, Middlesex with his wife Sarah and their children Annie, Emily, Maud, Frank and Douglas. An adopted daughter Ellen M. Barker was also living there.[10]
1891 Census on the 5th April1891 Alfred a civil servant, was living at 22 Cromwell Avenue, Hornsey, Middlesex with his wife Sarah and their children Annie, Emily, Maud, Frank and Douglas. According to the 1891 Census Sarah was also a clerk in the courts, so they may have met through work.[11][12]
In 1899 Alfred was the executor of his fathers will, as described in the newspaper announcement : WILLS AND BEQUESTS. MR. BENJAMIN VINCENT, The will of Mr. Benjamin Vincent, of 11, Ellington Street, Barnsbury. Librarian of t'he Royal Institution, and Editor of "Haydon's' Dictionary of Dates' who died on the 3rd May last aged 87 years, leaving personal estate valued at £5,403 12s 2d., has been proved by the surviving executor, his son, Mr. Alfred Vincent, of 22, Cromwell Avenue, Highgate [13]
1901 Census on the 31st March 1901 Alfred the head clerk, Taxation Dept., Central Office, Supreme Court of Justice, was living at 22 Cromwell Avenue, Hornsey, Middlesex with his wife Sarah and their children Annie and Frank.[14]
1911 Census on the 2nd April 1911 Alfred was living at 22 Cromwell Avenue, Hornsey, Middlesex with his wife Sarah.[15]
Alfred died aged 82 on the 30th September 1923 at 22 Cromwell Avenue, Hornsey, Middlesex, and he was buried in St Pancras Cemetery, Finchley.[16][17][2]

Alfred's Will dated 1914 was proved in London on the 27th October 1923 and his estate, £3152 2sh. 10d passed to his son Frank, a clerk.[18][2]
Alfred was admitted into membership of the London Sandemanian Church on 27 October 1861 according to the membership records. The records state that he was the son of Benjamin Vincent, was excluded from the membership on the 26th October 1862 and restored to the membeship on the 8th March 1863.[19][20]

Alfred is included in the list of members Sandemanian members list London. According to the members list, he was born in 1841, was admitted into the church in 1861 and died in 1923. His wives Janet Douglas known as Jessie, and Sarah Jane Hobbs were also recorded, with Sarah Jane being a Sandemanian.
