John Vine Esq. (abt. 1350 - bef. 1384)

Biography

James Andreu, draper, in his will dated London, Wednesday the Vigil of S. Matthew, Apostle [21 Sept.], A.D. 1374, stated, "John Vyne, draper, his servant, to enjoy his leasehold tenements, held under the Priory of Dertford, in Cordewanerstrete in the parishes of S. Mary le Bow and S. Mary de Aldermarichirche." ^[1]

He was elected as one of six drapers to serve on a Council of the City of London, and took the oath of this office on August 9 1376. ^[2]

John Vyne and Joyce Cornerth were married by January 25 1377/78. ^[3]

John Vyne had many and varied important civic roles. He was sworn as alderman of London from Queen Hithe on March 12 1377/78.^[4] Then in 1379 Letters Patent appointing John Vyne and others in London to be collectors of a graduated poll-tax were enacted by parliament and witnessed by the King. ^[5]Later the same year John Vyne and others were elected auditors of the Chamberlain's account in London. ^[6] In March 1379/80, John Vyne was elected and accepted as Alderman from the Cordewanerstret Ward by John Hadlee, the Mayor, and the Aldermen in default of election by men of the Ward. ^[7]

John Vyne died by September 3 1384. ^[8]
