Benjamin Rush Vines was born on January 21, 1833, in Palmetta, Carroll, Georgia, United States. He was the son of John Ashford Vines (1815–1850) and Jane A Robinson (1815–1921). [1] [2]

He married Clarice Jane Price (1838–1867) in 1861 in Upshur County, Texas. They had two children: Leonard Vines (1861–1867) and Amanda Ellen Ann (Vines) Cloud (1866-1937).

From the War Department, April 19, 1930. "Benjamin R. Vines, served during the Civil war in Co. I, 9th. Texas Cavalry, C.S.A., (Sims’ Regt. 4th. Texas Cav.-,) enlisted October 14, 1861, at Camp Reeves, Grayson Co., Texas. Prisoner of War records show that he was captured July 22, 1864, near Atlanta, Ga., paroled at Camp Chase, Ohio, and transferred to City Point, Va., March 4,1865, for exchange, a Private." [3] [4]

After Clarice's death, Benjamin (34) married Jane Melvina Preston (17) (born in 1850 in Tennessee) on January 14, 1868, in Hopkins, Texas. [5] [6]

  4. Caldonia J Vines (1874–1913)
  5. Benjamin Franklin Vines (1877–1941)

He then married Mary Elizabeth Ward (1851–1936) on 9 November 1879 in Hopkins, Texas. [7] [8] [9]

They had Three children:

  1. James W Vines (1880–1960)
  2. Ollie (Vines) Wilcoxson (1882–1965)
  3. Benjamin F. Vines (1887-)

Benjamin died on July 23, 1903, in Small, Van Zandt, Texas, United States, aged 65.

He is buried in Small Cemetery, Edgewood, Texas. [10]
