WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA
WILL OF JAMES VIRTUE
Know all men by these presents that I, JAMES VIRTUE, of Eldersville, Washington County, Pennsylvania, being of sound mind and good disposing memory do make utter publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament and that I desire all my earthly possessions to be disposed of as hereinafter named, viz :
First, I desire that all my just debts funeral expenses be paid.
Second, I give to my wife, JANE VIRTUE, eight hundred dollars, five hundred dollars of that amount to be used by my executors for the purchase of a house and lot in Eldersville, Pennsylvania. Provided that if a house and lot is not purchased by me during my life and deeded to her, then she will only receive three hundred dollars of the above mentioned eight hundred. I also bequeath to my wife Jane Virtue one horse, saddle and bridle ; one cow ; all my household and kitchen furniture and three hogs or their value. This bequest being in full of her Cower right at law as she agrees.
Third, I bequeath to the children of my daughter ELIZABETH ( SIRUS ? ) one hundred dollars.
Forth, To my daughter, JULIA WHITE, one hundred dollars.
Fifth, To my daughter, SARA M. SHARP, three hundred dollars.
Sixth, To the children of my daughter, ELEANOR SUTHERLAND, deceased, three hundred dollars, to be equally divided amongst them.
Seventh, to my two children, SAMUEL E. and OLIVE V. VIRTUE, I give five hundred dollar each and in case both or either of them should die before they are 14 years of age then I direct the share of such deceased one to be equally divided between my present wife and my boys. I also give to my son SAMUEL E. VIRTUE, one colt if I own one at my death if not then its value.
Eighth, I direct my executors soon after my death to sell all my property real and personal not herein otherwise disposed of and after satisfying the above bequests with proceeds thereof to divide any balance that may remain in their hands between my wife Jane Virtue and my sons Thomas, James, John, Walter, William and Samuel Virtue in such manner that my wife and my sons Thomas, Walter and William shall each receive one hundred dollars more than the remaining ones above named.
Ninth, I also call attention of my executors to accompany pass book No. 1 as to former bequests which I have formerly paid.
Tenth, I do hereby appoint H. C. Cooper, guardian of my children, Samuel E. and Olive V. Virtue
Eleventh, I do hereby further appoint Dr. J. F. McCarrell and Thompson Criss the sole and only executors of this my last Will and Testament.
As witness my hand and seal the 19th day of May 1884,

Cooper, Register for the probate of Wills and granting Letters of Administration within and for said county came J. M. Barber and John W. E. Crippen the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing attached will of James Virtue, deceased, who after being duly qualified according to law, depose and say : That they were present at the execution of said will, saw the Testator sign the same by making his mark thereto, heard him publish it as and for his last Will and Testament, that they at his request, in his presence and in the presence of each other subscribed their names thereto as witnesses sworn and subscribed before John F. Cooper, Register.
