30 September 1679: Some freemen (Gerrit Jansz: Visser (from Ommen), Hendrik Jacobsz: van West(er)kerke, Jan Stoffel, & Wilhelm Meyer (from Essen) - 3 first being freeburgers & 4th a Company servant on loan), all of competent age who had been in the interior with our licence to shoot sea cows [hippopotami] for the maintenance of their families, returned to the Fort [Casteel de Goede Hoop], & reported that they had been robbed of their wagon oxen (24 in number) by some Soucquas of the Obiqua tribe [Bushmen or San], who had further threatened that if they did not return to the Cape, they would come & massacre them; that they were thus compelled to abandon their wagon & the flesh of the animals they had shot, & to make a precipitate retreat, as fully appears by the declarations passed by them: but it is much to be doubted whether the said "Hottentots" [Bushman] had not received some provocation before they resorted to such insolent & predatory conduct; & this must be further inquired into. Good day, I see that there is an Adobe document where there is usually a primary photo. Is this correct ? I was under the impression that there should be a photo here. Is it OK if I remove, where possible, the Adobe documents in the space for primary photos in my family tree
