Biography

Mary Ann Vogel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank X. Vogel, 59 Garfield St., and Sylvester P. Phillips, son of Mark G. Phillips, Clinton St., Elma, were married at 10 a.m. Saturday [August 26, 1950] at St. Mary's Church. Officiating clergyman was Rev. Howard Adolph.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore Ivory chantilly lace over heavy lustrous satin, with sweetheart scalloped-edge neck line, long basque with tucked bodice, long sleeves ending in points over the hands, and full gathered skirt falling gracefully over hoops into a cathedral length train. Her head dress was a lace cap with import French Illusion veil, and she carried white orchids, white gypsophila and green ivy. The matron of honor, Mrs. Elizabeth Hirsch, sister of the bride, wore a gown of white frosted organdy over blue taffeta underskirts and an open-crowned bonnet of white organdy. Her flowers were white asters, green ivy and white gypsophila tied with blue satin ribbon.

Bridesmaids were Miss Agnes Roll, Miss Dolores Fitzgerald and Miss Helen Phillips, sister of the bridegroom. Their gowns were the same color and style as the matron of honor, and their flowers, blue asters, green ivy and white gypsophila tied with white satin ribbon.

Best man was Linus Weber. Ushers were Herbert J. Vogel, brother of the bride, Donald Bodekor and Mark Weisbeck. The bride's mother wore a navy blue crepe dress with lace bodice, blue velvet hat, white gloves, blue bag and blue shoes. She carried a corsage of Japanese lilies. A reception was held at the Elks Home. The bride’s traveling outfit was a navy blue tissue taffeta suit, a white hat of hatter’s plush, white gloves, navy bag and navy shoes. Her corsage was of white orchids. (Lancaster Enterprise, August 31, 1950)
