Biography

Alma Clara Vogt, the daughter of Lorenz J. Vogt and Mary A. Dannehold, was born on June 20, 1889 in Illinois. She died at the age of 78 on October 28, 1967. She was buried in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Columbia, Monroe County, Illinois.
Alma was a resident of Valmeyer, Monroe County, Illinois at the time of her death.

Alma married Jake West about 1906. The marriage ended in divorce about 1921.
The known children of Jake and Alma were:

1. May West
2. Corina West
3. Arthur Garfield "Bud" West Hicks

Bud was the biological son of Jake's brother Tom. Jake and Alma adopted Bud shortly after the death of Bud's mother in December 1920.

Alma married David Otto Hicks about 1922.
David and Otto apparently had no biological children. However, Alma retained custody of her adopted son Arthur Garfield "Bud" West Hicks. The child was raised by David and Otto as if he was their own. Bud grew up using the surname "Hicks". Although he was never formally adopted by David Hicks, Bud considered David and Alma as his parents, and retained the surname for the rest of his life.
