Biography

Born: Albert Rudolph Wilhelm VOGT was born on 01 June 1861 in Bagots Well, a locality on the Eudunda Road, 06 km north east of Kapunda, South Australia. His father is Christian Ludwig August (August) VOGT and mother, Friedericke Wilhelmine SCHULZE. His parents arrived in South Australia aboard the Steinwaerder on 19 December 1855.

Preferred name: Rudolf in his marriage and Council records. later also as William.

Married: on 10 February 1885 at the age of 23 years, he married Emma Bertha MATTHIAS in the Moravian Church, Bethel, near Kapunda South Australia.

Occupation and residence: farmers at Allandale North in the Kapunda district. Despite his heavy work load on the farm and the responsibilities of raising a large family, Wilhelm also carried out civic duties by representing Maryvale Ward on the Kapunda District Council for several terms

Children as identified from South Australian Birth and Marriage Registrations are:

1. Hugo Bernhart Vogt, born 21 Jan 1886 (the Birth Residence is given as Anna). He died on 12 January 1892 at the age of 6 years. The place of death is given as Anna as is the place of residence. The registration document records his relative as "William Vogt".

2. Hedwig Gartruhd Vogt, born 13 June 1887 (the Birth Residence is given as Anna). Hedwig married John Robert Harry Hope WENHAM of Yankalilla, at the Registry Office Adelaide on 21 January 1920. John passed away two years later on 2 May 1922 at the age of 27 years. Hedwig died at Woodville on 6 December 1966, at the age of 78 years.

3. Arthur Wilhelm Vogt, born 16 September 1888 at Steinfeld. Arthur married Melita Elvira HAUSCHILD at Eudunda, on 11 February 1918. He passed away at Kapunda on 13 October 1961, at the age of 73 years.

4. Ida Agnes Vogt, born 20 October 1890. On 28 August 1924, at the age of 33 years, she married Carl Ferdinand LINKE, age 50, at St Stephens Church, Adelaide.

5. Elsa Hedwig Olga Vogt, born 1 June 1892 at Allandale. On 30 October 1923, she married Otto HALDIMANN at St Stephens Church, Adelaide.

6. Bernhardt Herbert Vogt, born 22 November 1894 at Allandale North. On 10 September 1920, at the age of 25 years, he married Mathilda Louise ENGEL at the Lutheran Church Flinders Street, Adelaide. He passed away on 15 July 1990.

7. Agnes Clara Vogt, born 31 December 1895 at Allandale North.On 18 September 1823, at the age of 27 years, she married Albert Otto MODRA at Kapunda. Agnes passed away on 7 March 1987 at the age of 91 years.

8. Helena Flora Vogt, born 9 April 1901 at Allandale North

9. Gordon Berthold Vogt, born 7 August 1907 at Allandale North. He passed away on 19 February 1974 at the age of 66 years (Newspaper Notice).

10. Edgar Oskar (Oscar) Vogt (Jack), 24 September 1908 at Allandale North. On 7 July 1928 at the age of 24 years, he married Lucy Agnes LAMONT at Prospect. He passed away on 16 November 1994 at the age of 91 years. (Newspaper Notice).

Died: in Adelaide on 17 June 1913. His residence was given as Wayville. His wife Emma, later resided in Esmond Street, Unley, South Australia.
