King of Hanover. He fled the country in 1866 as Hanover surrendered to Otto Von Bismarck and became a province of Unified Germany.

Georg Friedrich Alexander Karl Ernst August (1819-1878) was the grandson of Great Britain’s King George III. Georg had been second in line to the British throne until Queen Victoria had an heir. Georg, the Crown Prince of Hanover and Prince of Cumberland succeeded his father Karl August as King of Hanover on November 18, 1851, styling himself King George V. The biographical sketch linked below has wonderful portraits and tells of the blind King's love for music.
