Georg Johannes Ritter von Trapp was born on 4 April 1880 in Zara, Kingdom of Dalmatia, Austria-Hungary. He became an Austrian naval officer and submarine commander whose successes during World War I earned him numerous decorations. He married Agathe Whitehead in 1911 in Fiume, on the Adriatic coast, where they raised a family of seven children. Following Austria-Hungary's collapse after the war, the family moved to Austria, where Agathe died of scarlet fever in 1922. Five years later, Georg married Maria Augusta Kutschera, the tutor for one of his daughters. Most of the family's wealth was wiped out during the Great Depression. The family singing troup toured widely including the USA and Scandinavia before returning to America, prior to its entry into WWII, where the family bought a farm in Stowe, Vermont and continued touring as the Von Trapp Family Singers. Georg died in Stowe on 30 May 1947, aged 67. His family continued to sing and tour. Their story has been told on Broadway in the largely fictitous The Sound of Music, by Rodgers and Hammerstein and in the movie of the same name.[1]

We plan on featuring Georg in the Connection Finder alongside Julia Stimson, the Example Profile, on November 11th. Between now and then is a good time to take a look at the sources and biography to see if there are updates and improvements that need made, especially those that will bring it up to WikiTree Style Guide standards. We know it's short notice, so don't fret too much. Just do what you can. A Team member will check on the profile Tuesday and make changes as necessary.
Thanks! Abby
