When Petrus Jansen Van Voorhees was born on January 6, 1712, in Flatlands, New York, his father, Jan, was 36 and his mother, Mayke, was 27. He married Marytje/Mary Brokaw in 1733. They had eight children in 23 years. He died on April 3, 1751, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, at the age of 39.
