Gerald was born in 1925. Gerald Vorbeck ... He passed away in 1986 at his home in Chillicothe, Missouri of a heart attack. He was born about five miles south of Chillicothe near the "Jimtown" area along the Grand River. The third of four sons born to William FF Vorbeck Jr. and Dora Pearl Israel Vorbeck. He attended school at the Oak Grove School and graduated from Chillicothe High School. He joined the US Navy during World War II and was a Water Tender 3rd Class aboard the USS Eppingforest LST. He served in the South Pacific Theater and was involved in many island invasions and actions. Returning home he went to work for Bill Stillwell and Jim Fish in a sheet metal shop where he worked for approximately 37 years. On August 12, 1948 he married Norma Lee Salisbury in Chillicothe. To this union there were five children born Richard, Steven, Michael, Craig and Cheryl. When the shop closed a year or so before Jerry;s death he worked as a freelance sheet metal worker. In the early morning of November 13, 1986 Jerry died of a heart attack. He was buried in the Resthaven Cemetery north of Chillicothe. Throughout his life Jerry enjoyed hunting and fishing. Jerry was a skilled tradesman and was well versed in sheet metal, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry and electricity.
